Description

Surgical management of diaphragmatic endometriosis. The awareness and presentation of diaphragmatic endometriosis is rising with patient led movements to establish harmonised treatment pathways and surgical treatments. In the absence of an evidence base we are faced with the dilemma of knowing the best and safest approach to manage diaphragmatic endometriosis. The BSGE database is one of the largest repositories of endometriosis surgical data that will be incorporating diaphragmatic endometriosis treatments and patient outcomes within in its minimum dataset. In this session we highlight varied multidisciplinary approaches to manage this disease including laparoscopic, robotic and thoracoscopic routes. We focus on multidisciplinary working in the United Kingdom with gynecological surgeons, hepatobiliary surgeons, and thoracic surgeons to provide effective treatment while collecting real world data to inform international clinical care guidelines.

Learning Objectives: After attending this session, the participant will be able to: 1) Recognize the role of the multidisciplinary team in planning diaphragmatic endometriosis surgery; 2) Navigate challenges of laparoscopic work on the diaphragm; and 3) Outline the role of combined abdominal and thoracoscopic surgery in diagnosis and surgical management.
