Description

Surgical gynecology education is a challenging task that clinicians working in the surgical environment face daily. Identifying learners' needs and aligning them with current clinical and surgical practical recommendations is imperative to design a structured curriculum. Furthermore, transmitting declarative and procedural knowledge efficiently is challenging with current clinical and surgical restrictions, such as limited time in the clinic or in the OR, safety, and efficiency issues, insurance restrictions, and legal factors, among other limitations. For this reason, the surgeon educator should be prepared to overcome these difficulties and develop an educational strategy for their learners.

The main objective of this session is to provide tools to the surgeon educator on how to efficiently transmit concepts and behaviors that will shape the development of the learner as a future clinician and MIGS. In this session, we will discuss current educational principles applicable to surgical education, which will foster meaningful learning. Furthermore, we will provide the learner with a unique perspective on how to seek proper training in clinical and surgical environments.

Learning Objectives: After attending this session, the participant will be able to: 1) Recognize learners' educational needs related to clinical and surgical MIGS concepts; 2) Describe different educational principles that can be used in MIGS; and 3) Identify effective educational strategies applicable to MIGS training.
