Dr. Marco Oliveira is Director of the Division of Endoscopic Surgery at Pedro Ernesto University Hospital (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Full Professor/Chair of the Department of Gynecology at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He earned his MD from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), completed a fellowship in Abdominal Surgery at Clementino Fraga Filho Hospital, and obtained his PhD in Medicine from UERJ in 2004. An AAGL member since 1995, Dr. Oliveira has played a major leadership role in gynecologic endoscopy in Brazil and Latin America, including Past President of the Brazilian Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy and Endometriosis (SOBENGE). He organized the 2006 AAGL-sponsored congress in Brazil (700+ attendees, 25 international speakers) and served as President of the Scientific Program for the 2nd AAGL International Meeting in São Paulo (2008). A pioneer in surgical education, he established one of Brazil's first continuing endoscopic skills courses (1996) and directed resident training in gynecologic endoscopy for 10 years. He has authored influential textbooks, book chapters, and peer-reviewed publications (including JMIG, Fertility & Sterility, and Obstetrics & Gynecology), and has served as an ad hoc reviewer for Medline-indexed journals, including the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology (62 reviews). He is internationally recognized for advanced minimally invasive surgery and deep endometriosis, including live surgical demonstrations. He served on the AAGL Board of Trustees (2012–2013) and authored the Atlas of Deep Endometriosis (Springer, English edition 2018).
