Description: In this course, instructors will provide a practical overview of key research databases and how to effectively leverage them for high-quality scholarly work in gynecology. Participants will refine essential skills in manuscript development, with a focus on structuring, writing, and navigating the submission process to achieve successful publication within the field of gynecologic research. In addition, the course will offer a foundational understanding of the National Institutes of Health grant process as it relates to gynecology and women’s health, including key components of grant applications, review criteria, and strategies for developing competitive proposals. Together, these sessions are designed to equip participants with the core tools needed to advance academic productivity and research success in gynecology.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- List major databases and registries containing variables pertinent to complex benign gynecology. Understand strengths and limitations of working with registries/databases.
- Understand best practice in scientific writing. Learn techniques to increase chances of paper acceptance. Optimize written communication for maximum impact in publication;
- Understand the perspective of major agencies in funding decisions;
- Increase awareness aware of various research funding vehicles from private to federal sources; and
- Optimize applications for funding in the field of complex benign gynecology.
