556: No Fibroid Left Behind: The Science, Skill, and Significance of Complete Hysteroscopic Myomectomy
Sunday, November 15, 2026
3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Room: RM306
Chair: Ted L. Anderson
Faculty: Ted L. Anderson, Linda D. Bradley, Malcolm G. Munro
Description: Submucosal leiomyomata (FIGO 0-2) constitute approximately 25% of fibroids. However, with contributions to abnormal uterine bleeding, subfertility, and dysmenorrhea, they represent a disproportionate share of patient complaints. There is compelling evidence that residual fibroid fragments from incomplete removal increase the health care burden, resulting in additional medical interventions, hysteroscopic re-operations, or even hysterectomy to resolve clinical symptoms and address the medical, emotional, and social stressors to the patient. In this session, we discuss the clinical, cultural, and economic importance of complete submucosal fibroid removal. Recognizing there is "more than one way to skin that proverbial cat,” we will describe the utility of selecting the right tools and techniques to achieve the operative imperative of “No Fibroid Left Behind.”
Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Recognize the clinical, emotional, and fiscal implications of incomplete removal of submucosal fibroids;
- Describe the tools and techniques that facilitate effective hysteroscopic myomectomy; and
- Understand the optimal surgical strategies required to achieve complete fibroid removal.
