Patrice M. Weiss, MD, FACOG, is an obstetrician and a highly respected physician executive. She currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of the Midlands and the Chief Academic Officer at Prisma Health Medical Group. Dr. Weiss has served in senior executive roles for more than a decade. Dr. Weiss served as professor of clinical Ob/Gyn at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was actively involved in clinical care. She also served as a consultant with Witt Kieffer advising health systems and companies.Previously, she was executive vice president and chief medical officer at Carilion Clinic and served as chair and residency program director of the department of Ob/Gyn, medical director of the Carilion Clinic Breast Care Center, and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Earlier in her career, Dr. Weiss was the vice chair of education, research, and academic compliance as well as the residency program director and clerkship director at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She was the first medical director of Risk Management for Lehigh Valley Physicians Group. While at Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, she served on numerous committees and boards including the Appointment Promotion and Tenure Committee. She was instrumental in establishing a system wide Second Victim and Disclosure program for all providers involved in medical errors and unanticipated outcomes.Dr. Weiss is past chair of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement and served on the Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Healthcare. In addition, Dr. Weiss is a past member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Ob/Gyn Residency Review Committee. She is a founding board member of the Society of Academic Specialists in General Ob/Gyn (SASGOG) and has served on the board of directors for the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She also served as an oral board examiner with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology for a decade and participated in the writing of the recertification written exams. She was the Chair of the American Hospital Association Committee of Clinical Leadership.Dr. Weiss received her medical degree from Hahnemann University (Drexel) School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical society. She completed her residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital as well as a fellowship in academic leadership with the Council of University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
