This course will explore the implications of interactions with the legal system, complications vs breach of standards of care, the nature and importance of documented informed consent, emotional implications, and resources for surgeons involved in legal proceedings.

Learning Objectives: After attending this session, the participant will be able to: 1) Negotiate the medicolegal system; 2) Identify signs and symptoms of the second victim; and 3) Employ mechanisms to protect yourself legally and emotionally.
