This course will provide an overview of laparoscopic benign hysterectomy technique as a whole: From first access to cuff closure. First, we will show the anatomical considerations and critical pelvic anatomy when performing this surgery. Then how to access the peritoneal cavity and how to place our trocars. We will share some tricks on how to modify traditional trocar positioning depending on uterine size. We will discuss the usefulness of uterine manipulators. We will present a standardized technique and discuss the rationale of utilizing advanced energy devices. Surgical technique description finishes with different ways to perform a vaginal cuff closure and before the end, we will show different ways to deal with some intraoperative complications.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:1) Identify anatomical landmarks involved in benign hysterectomy technique; 2) Apply a systematic approach to benign hysterectomy performance from the first access to vaginal cuff closure; and 3) Apply specific techniques to deal with common intraoperative complications.
