During this Rapid-Fire Overview, three controversial topics will be addressed: Morcellation and its oncologic implications with regard to sarcoma. True risks will be assessed and the difficult issue of its impact on our surgical practice will be put into perspective. There is new and highly interesting data about the benefits of prophylactic salpingectomy, including opportunistic salpingectomy, which could hugely influence our daily practice and might even affect our collaboration with other specialties. Finally, amid a renaissance of Hormone Replacement Therapy, the available data with regard to risks and benefits will be reviewed and future prospects discussed.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this course, the participant will: 1) Cite the statistics about oncologic risks with regard to morcellation, salpingectomy and hormone replacement therapy; 2) Quote the current literature with regard to ovarian cancer risk and risk reduction; and 3) Describe the changing assessment of the risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy.
