839: PG SIG - Redefining Office Intrauterine Surgery: Pain Science, Technique and Best-Practice Pearls
Saturday, November 14, 2026
10:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: RM304
Chairs: Jovana Tavcar, Alka Kumar
Faculty: Jovana Tavcar, Alka Kumar, Sergio Haimovich, Erica F. Robinson
Description: Office-based intrauterine surgery empowers patients with faster access to care, shared decision-making, and reduced barriers to treatment. Yet procedural pain remains the leading reason for patient refusal, aborted procedures, or conversion to the operating room. This course equips gynecologic surgeons with the understanding of innervation and physiology, surgical technique, and practical tools necessary to minimize pain, improve tolerance, and expand access to office-based care. Faculty will integrate anatomy, innervation, fluid dynamics, and evidence-based analgesia with indications and real-world pearls to transform the patient experience and increase the success of in-office intrauterine surgery worldwide.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Apply atraumatic intrauterine surgical techniques including vaginoscopy, scope manipulation, and selection of appropriate instruments;
- Describe the neuroanatomy and innervation of the cervix and uterus relevant to procedural pain; and
- Optimize distension pressure and fluid strategies to balance visualization, pain control, and safety. Identify appropriate indications for office intrauterine surgery and evaluate current evidence-based pain control approaches. Counsel patients and build workflows that elevate access, autonomy, and surgical success.
