Sunday, November 15, 2026
3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Room: RM304
Chair: Alan Lam
Faculty: Jan Baekelandt, Matthew Siedhoff
Description:
Hysterectomy, one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures worldwide, for the treatment of pathologies of the female reproductive system, can be performed traditionally by abdominal, vaginal, or laparoscopic approach.
While laparoscopic hysterectomy has established its role as a safe and effective surgical alternative to abdominal surgery, in recent years, vNOTES (vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery) has emerged as a potential challenger to the status quo, with enthusiastic advocates claiming superior advantages in operative efficiency, postoperative recovery, patient satisfaction and more.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, the participant will be able to: 1) Describe the surgical steps involved in vNOTES versus Laparoscopic hysterectomy; 2) Compare the evidence for and against each approach; and 3) help patients choose the approach that best deliver safety, efficacy, benefits and optimal outcomes.
