Phillip Connell, MD is a fellow in complex benign gynecology at Northwell Health and an active member of the AAGL AI and Emerging Technologies Task Force. His work sits at the intersection of advanced gynecologic surgery, extended reality (XR), and clinical AI, with a focus on converting intraoperative video, audio, and workflow signals into tools that improve safety, efficiency, and training. He is developing an XR-based surgical visualization concept that enables low-latency laparoscopic streaming to lightweight displays, supports real-time decision making, and is designed to scale for telementoring and proctoring. He also contributes to complementary efforts in operative intelligence, predictive scheduling, and AI-enabled simulation. Dr. Connell's teaching and research interests include telepresence architectures, human factors in the operating room, model evaluation and governance in high-stakes environments, and practical pathways for responsible deployment of AI in surgical care. He collaborates with clinicians, engineers, and health system partners to translate emerging technologies into adoption-ready solutions that enhance outcomes and expand access to minimally invasive surgery.
