Dr. Truong is a minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon and educator who completed a Minimally InvasiveGynecologic Surgery Fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center and a research fellowship in SurgicalSimulation at the Florida Hospital Nicholson Center. She has also completed a Postgraduate Certificate inMedical Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her practice and research is focused on minimallyinvasive gynecologic surgery, fibroids, endometriosis, robotic surgery and surgical simulation andeducation. She specializes in minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, including hysterectomy,myomectomy, cerclage, isthmocele (uterine niche) repair, and endometriosis surgery.Dr. Truong serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology as Deputy Editor,the Social Media Editor and Social Media Committee Chair. She is an active member of the Society forGynecologic Surgeons where she serves as the incoming co-chair for the Programming Committee. She is alsoan active member of the AAGL and is the chair for the FMIGS Simulation Committee. She is an activemember of the Society for Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons as a member of the SLS World team.With her interests in surgical simulation and innovation, she has created multiple online multimedia educationalplatforms including a gynecologic surgery education website www.learngynsurgery.com and has developedseveral robotic training surgical curricula.She has experience with development of surgical simulation models and has created various models for surgicaltraining such as a minimally invasive myomectomy model and the Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery (FRS)robotic psychomotor surgical skills model. She helped develop one of the earliest augmented reality roboticsimulation hysterectomy modules. Currently she is developing training tools to train surgical teams andevaluating the role of virtual reality to overcome certain training challenges. She believes collaboration betweenhealthcare professionals and industry is essential in evolving and innovating the surgical education landscape.Dr. Truong is nationally and internationally recognized for her work in surgical education and simulation andhas published numerous research papers on these topics. She has been an invited speaker and faculty forlaparoscopic and robotic surgery workshops nationally and internationally.Dr. Truong has mentored medical students, residents, and fellows in career development and research nationallyand internationally. Before joining MedStar, she founded the fellowship program at Cedars-Sinai MedicalCenter in Los Angeles.
