Dr. Luccas Chagas is a Brazilian surgeon with a strong focus on minimally invasive pelvic surgery and the advanced treatment of deep infiltrating endometriosis. He completed his surgical oncology training at the National Cancer Institute (INCA) in Rio de Janeiro, one of Latin America's leading cancer centers. He further specialized in complex endometriosis surgery through fellowships with renowned experts, including Professor Horace Roman (France), Professor Marcello Ceccaroni (Italy), and Professors Paulo Ayroza and Helizabet Salomão (Brazil). These experiences provided him with advanced training in nerve-sparing techniques, compartmental surgery, and multidisciplinary approaches to deep endometriosis involving the bowel, bladder, ureters, and pelvic nerves. Dr. Chagas performs over 150 laparoscopic surgeries for endometriosis annually, with a special focus on cases involving multiorgan resection and pelvic nerve entrapment. His surgical approach emphasizes restoring function, preserving fertility when desired, and improving quality of life for patients with chronic pelvic pain. He founded the first two public outpatient clinics exclusively dedicated to laparoscopic endometriosis surgery in the state of Sergipe, Brazil. These clinics expanded access to advanced surgical care within the public health system (SUS), offering free and comprehensive treatment to underserved patients. As a medical consultant for the Brazilian Federal Prosecution Office (MPF), Dr. Chagas contributed to revising the national procedure coding system (SIGTAP), advocating for the inclusion of advanced endometriosis surgeries under ICD N80. This work helped increase institutional recognition of endometriosis as a complex and disabling condition requiring specialized care. He is also committed to surgical education and regularly teaches techniques related to nerve-sparing dissection and retroperitoneal anatomy. His instructional efforts aim to improve the quality of training in gynecologic and oncologic surgery across Brazil. His key areas of interest include: Laparoscopic management of deep endometriosis Pelvic nerve decompression Surgical anatomy of the retroperitoneum Health policy and access to surgery in low-resource settings Dr. Chagas has presented his surgical techniques at international congresses and is a member of professional societies such as AAGL, SEUD, ESGE, SBE, and SBCO. His practice reflects a growing commitment to excellence in endometriosis care and health equity in Latin America.
