Speaker Bio
Dr. Anat From, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa, a Staff Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist at CHEO, and a General Gynecologist at The Ottawa Hospital. Her clinical work spans congenital Müllerian anomalies, adolescent endometriosis and pelvic pain, ovarian masses and torsion, minimally invasive gynecology, and pediatric/adolescent vulvar health - including evaluation and management of vulvar dermatoses, vulvodynia, and complex hygiene and irritant-related conditions - delivered with adolescent-friendly techniques such as vaginoscopy and trauma-informed care.Dr. From completed a two-year Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology fellowship at CHEO after board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Israel, where she served as junior attending at Rabin Medical Center and helped manage a high-volume PAG service. She earned both a B.Med.Sc. and a PhD at Tel Aviv University with honors. Her research program centers on three complementary streams: (1) data-informed diagnosis and management of adnexal pathology in adolescents - most notably para-tubal cysts and their association with torsion and obesity (2) simulation-based education to accelerate skill acquisition for complex pediatric gynecologic procedures, including 3D-printed models for transverse vaginal septum resection and (3) patient experience and health-equity innovations, such as virtual-reality - assisted anxiolysis for IUD insertion and curriculum development that integrates cultural and religious considerations into PAG care. In parallel, she is advancing pragmatic care pathways and patient-education tools for adolescent vulvar health to improve early recognition, reduce stigma, and standardize multidisciplinary management with dermatology, pelvic floor therapy, and pediatric pain services. She has presented her work internationally and locally, recent and forthcoming publications include studies on Müllerian anomaly visualization for surgical planning and outcomes research across benign gynecology. Her research has been supported by awards including a NASPAG Young Investigators Grant and a CiMED Medical Education Research Grant.A committed educator, Dr. From teaches and examines residents and fellows across pediatrics, family medicine, and OB/GYN, leads simulation sessions, and contributes to grand rounds and journal clubs. She serves on NASPAG’s Education Committee, co-chairs the Canadian SIG, and is a member of CanSAGE and AAGL. She is dedicated to advancing adolescent-centered, evidence-based, and equitable gynecologic care through clinical innovation, rigorous research, and hands-on education.
