Patients First: Advocating for a New Model for Equitable Fibroid CareĀ
MEDTalk: Taraneh Shirazian
Description: This MED Talk provides a comprehensive review of disparities and gaps in fibroid care, redefines multidisciplinary fibroid care, and provides a blueprint of the multidisciplinary fibroid care model. It will use a case study of a successful multidisciplinary fibroid center in New York and offer concrete suggestions on how multidisciplinary resources can be integrated in outpatient gynecology practices nationwide. This MED Talk will demonstrate, with high-quality evidence and practical examples, how five different services can be integrated into fibroid care to promote equitable and holistic fibroid care. We will also provide evidence from NYU's Center for Fibroid Care on how lifestyle modification post-surgery appears to improve quality of life, as well as survey data and demonstrative testimonials from fibroid patients on gaps in care throughout the life-course of their disease, and how we are using this evidence to guide innovation and advancement in fibroid care standards. Dr. Taraneh Shirazian, Director of the Center for Fibroid Care at NYU Langone Health, will present this Med Talk, with the proposal developed with input from Margot Bellon, medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine.
