Javier Magrina, MD: Shaping the Future of Women's Health

The prestigious role of Honorary Chair recognizes individuals whose contributions have significantly shaped the AAGL and the future of women's health. The 2025 recipient of this great honor, the incredible Dr. Javier Magrina, is widely regarded as one of the greatest pelvic surgeons of all time. He is a pioneer in minimally invasive oncologic and robotic surgery, having performed certain procedures years before others.

Dr. Magrina has made a tremendous impact in the AAGL through his wisdom and leadership as an AAGL Board Member, AAGL President, FMIGS Board Member, FMIGS President, Foundation Board Member, and at present, through his service as the Secretary-Treasurer for the AAGL Foundation. In addition, his passion for minimally invasive surgery for gynecologic cancer attracted others to join him in this pursuit and resulted in the historic birth of the AAGL Oncology Special Interest Group.

Our Honorary Chair has been recognized with other prestigious awards within the AAGL as well. In 2019, he received the Steege Mentorship Award for his dedication to shaping the next generation of MIG surgeons. In addition, his excellence in robotic surgery has been recognized through the development of an annual award named in his honor by the Foundation of the AAGL.

Dr. Magrina inspires us with his passion for learning and his desire to stretch himself for the benefit of his patients. He encourages us to ask ourselves, "what do you want to do for humanity?" His impactful leadership within the AAGL and commitment to surgical innovation solidifies him as the clear choice for Honorary Chair of this AAGL Global Congress which is dedicated to innovation and artificial intelligence.
