Abstract
- Study Objective: Patients with mullerian anomalies are often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed due to the rare, complex nature of such pathology, as well as the lack of a systematic approach to diagnosis, despite well-established societal classification systems. In this video, we present the case of a patient undergoing diagnostic evaluation of a complex mullerian anomaly.
- Design: This case report follows a patient from initial presentation to post operative recovery.
- Setting: The patient underwent the procedure under general anesthesia in dorsal lithotomy position. The procedure took place at an urban safety net academic medical center.
- Patients or Participants: This is a case report of a single patient with a mullerian anomaly.
- Interventions: The patient underwent exam under anesthesia, resection of longitudinal vaginal septum, diagnostic hysteroscopy, and endometrial biopsy.
- Measurements and Main Results: The goals of this report are to discuss a systematic approach to diagnosis of complex mullerian anomalies.
- Conclusion: Current societal classification systems for diagnosis of mullerian anomalies are insufficient to characterize complex mullerian anomalies. A systematic approach that combines clinical, imaging, and intraoperative findings must be taken to accurately diagnose and manage these rare conditions.
