Design: Educational video with narrated tips and techniques.
Setting: Single academic center.
Patients or Participants: Seven patients who underwent a laparoscopic hysterectomy by Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) faculty at a single academic center.
Interventions: This video is a compilation of seven surgical videos of patients with broad ligament fibroids who were treated with a laparoscopic hysterectomy.
Measurements and Main Results: The tips illustrated in this video include optimal instrument placement, considerations for approaching the uterus and adnexa, identification and protection of the ureters during dissection, enucleation of the broad ligament fibroid from the anterior and posterior peritoneal layers, and transection of the uterine vessels.
Conclusion: Broad ligament fibroids can obscure the anatomy of the uterus, adnexa, and retroperitoneum leading to challenges when performing a hysterectomy. This video emphasizes the importance of planning ahead to minimize surgical complications and provides tools for each step of the hysterectomy.
