The objective of the present study is to evaluate the correlation between FMRA and MRI in determining the location and dimensions of uterine fibroids.
Design: The study was a cross-sectional observational study. It was conducted in the department of OBGYN of BGS Global Institute of Medical Sciences & College, Bengaluru, India; a tertiary care teaching medical institution.
Setting:
Women aged between 18 to 60 years, diagnosed with less than with a maximum fibroid size not exceeding 5cm were included in the study All the women who consented to participate in the study underwent transvaginal ultrasound imaging and MRI.
Patients or Participants:
A total of 15 participants and 17 fibroids (two participants had multiple fibroids) were included in the study. The median age was found to be 42 (39,45). The median BMI was 27.83 (24.97, 31.11) and the majority of the women had at least one pregnancy in the past.
Interventions: Not applicable
Measurements and Main Results:
The median of difference between FMRA and MRI was -0.08(-0.22, 0.22, p=0.90) for X-axis, - 0.03(-0.27, 0.08, p=0.29) for Y-axis and -0.09(-0.18, 0.10, p=0.276) for Z-axis, indicating very minimal quantum of difference between both the methods .The median of difference between FMRA and MRI was -0.08(-0.19, 0.30, p=0.795) for length, -0.16(-0.28, 0.26, p=0.962) for width, -0.09(-0.18, 0.10, p=0.485) for depth, and 7.07(-11.83, 24.90, p=0.356) for overall lesion volume indicating very minimal quantum of difference between both the method was done through spearman’s rank correlation coefficient .Magnitude of correlation measured by Spearman Rho was 0.963 for length, 0.971 for width, 0.926 for depth and 0.956 for overall lesion volume.
Conclusion:
FMRA showed strong positive correlation and excellent agreement with MRI in assessing the location and dimensions of uterine fibroids, with minimal absolute variation and significantly faster reporting time than MRI.FMRA shows promising results and offers an advancement in the field of fibroid mapping for ablative procedures.
