Abstract
Study Objective: To present a case of minimally invasive hysterectomy for the treatment of acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and to review the epidemiology and treatment options for PID.
Design: Single case report.
Setting: Single academic center.
Patients or Participants: 36 year old G3P2012 with sepsis secondary to acute pelvic inflammatory disease.
Interventions: Broad spectrum antibiotics and ultimately, robotic assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy.
Measurements and Main Results: NA
Conclusion: For patients with acute pelvic inflammatory disease who do not respond to broad spectrum antibiotics, surgical intervention is warranted. A minimally invasive approach should be considered to reduce perioperative morbidity.
