Design: Surgical video
Setting: Laparoscopy simulation on FLS box trainer
Patients or Participants: MIGS Fellows
Interventions: Practice and performance of EMIGS tasks
Measurements and Main Results: EMIGS requires the use of ipsilateral ports with the surgeon standing on a single side of the trainer. Many MIGS specialists use a suprapubic port as it is excellent for bypassing large pathology and provides equal access to both sides of the pelvis. This video demonstrates set up and technique for a right hand dominant, suprapubic surgeon for EMIGS exam preparation. We go through the 5 EMIGS tasks with our suggested set up in order to demonstrate each and provide tips and tricks to perform each efficiently. We also modified our FLS trainer to in order to provide learners a simulation for practice with suprapubic suturing that is translatable to the operating room.
Conclusion: While the EMIGS exam requires the use of ipsilateral ports, right hand dominant, suprapubic surgeons may use our suggested set up for efficient and successful completion of these tasks. For skills practice directly translatable to the OR, we demonstrate an alternative trainer set up to practice the suprapubic technique.
