Design: A retrospective results of hysteroscopic management of Chronic Pyometra
Setting: Private hospital setup with advanced Endoscopic Surgery unit.
Patients or Participants: A total of 12 elderly post menopausal patients who had attended the hospital for the complaints of chronic purulent vaginal discharge from February 2019-December 2023
Interventions: Management of pyometra involves dilatation of closed cervix with the drainage of the pyometra and endometrial biopsy to rule out malignancy. After ruling out presence of active infection, a 5 mm operative sheath with 30 degree 2.9mm telescope was used along with only mechanical instruments for all the operative requirements. All the procedures were done in OR settings under short general anaesthesia.
Measurements and Main Results: Hysteroscopic management was done in all the 12 patients successfully
Conclusion: Hysteroscopic management is feasible and advantageous in the management of chronic pyometra in the elderly women, as it gives the safety aspects for entry and dilatation under vision, without false entry and also allows for targeted biopsy
