Design: Surgical video presentation
Setting: Academic tertiary care center
Patients or Participants: Surgeries involving several different patients are depicted in this video. All patients underwent surgery at the same academic tertiary care center. Surgeries include: hysteroscopic myomectomy, robotic ovarian cystectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy, and robotic myomectomy.
Interventions: This video demonstrates multiple applications for vasopressin use in gynecologic surgery. Vasopressin can be used off label for hemostasis and for hydro-dissection. Information regarding the safety of vasopressin and suggested dilution and dosage are described.
Measurements and Main Results: Methods for injection of vasopressin during minimally invasive gynecologic surgery include injection with a flexible cystoscopy needle, laparoscopic needle, butterfly needle, and spinal needle. Each technique has its own pros/cons which are detailed in this video.
Conclusion: Vasopressin is a safe and effective method to achieve hemostasis in gynecologic surgery. There are several techniques for vasopressin administration. Gynecologists should familiarize themselves with the uses of vasopressin and select a technique that best fits their practice.
