Dr. Shin Takenaka received his Bachelor of Science from Tohoku University in 2000, his MD from Saga University School of Medicine in 2006, and his PhD in Medicine from the Graduate School of Medicine at Showa University in 2016. He joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Showa University in 2008. Since 2020, he has been affiliated with the Medical Device Innovation Center and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the National Cancer Center Hospital East. In 2025, he will assume the position of Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Showa University. He is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in Gynecologic Oncology by the Japan Society of Gynecologic Oncology, and in Endoscopic Surgery by the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery. He also holds certifications for robotic surgery with three platforms: da Vinci, Hugo, and Hinotori. Dr. Takenaka has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Society Award from the Endoscopy Division of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2022. In 2023, he received the Education Encouragement Award from the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology for his contributions to surgical education. He was also awarded the Jordan M. Phillips Award for Best Research Abstract at the 2023 AAGL Global Congress for his pioneering research on AI in surgery. Since 2020, he has led several projects focusing on the development of a multi-center surgical video database, an AI-based surgical skill assessment system, and an AI-driven organ navigation system. His collaborative research led to the development of an AI-based intraoperative ureter and bladder recognition support system, which has been approved as a medical device in Japan.
