Course Description:
Originally designed to enhance diagnostic, treatment, and monitoring capabilities, to provide centralization of patients’ information, and to save time for physicians, machine learning in medicine has advanced to include autonomous robotic technology in which some functions of human doctors/surgeons have been found to be efficiently and successfully performed by robotic systems. This Med Talk evaluates the ramifications of such technological advancements.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to: 1) Define surgical intellect; 2) Identify qualities and skills of human surgeons essential for surgical expertise; 3) Identify machine-learning tasks that best serve the doctors and patients; and 4) Analyze potential tendencies in the evolution of surgical intellect in the Era of AI.

Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive review of the fundamentals of the medical device development process, from idea to the operating room. It will include an overview of the critical elements related to this effort/process including IP protection, research and development, financing, team selection, clinical research, regulatory, and more, such as information on different roles and types of contributions medical professionals may choose from as a function of the desired degree of involvement and stage in device/company development. 

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to: 1) State the number and types of roles medical professional can be involved in during the process of medical device innovation process; and 2) Compare the different types of financing of an idea/company and what investors are looking for.
