This course reviews the anatomy of pelvic support of the uterus and describes a novel technique to prevent vault prolapse following a hysterectomy. Videos will elaborate on the technique of prophylactic bilateral high uterosacral ligament suspension with pubocervical fascial plication following a hysterectomy for the prevention of vault prolapse. The technique of vault suspension will be demonstrated robotically and laparoscopically. The traditional method of vault closure following a robotic or laparoscopic hysterectomy will be questioned. The course will demonstrate novel techniques with a video presentation and high-quality evidence. The course will also expand on the preoperative work-up, counselling, and postoperative management of these patients.
Learning Objectives: After attending this session, the participant will be able to: 1) Identify relevant pelvic anatomy related to prolapse; 2) Employ the technique of vault suspension in robotic or laparoscopic hysterectomy; and 3) Assess the preoperative workup and postoperative considerations following vault suspension.
