This course will offer surgeons with minimally invasive experience the opportunity to comprehensively review the full array of fibroid treatment modalities, with a focus on choosing the best modality for individual patients based on their preferences and clinical scenario. The course will focus on best practices for patient counseling related to fibroid treatment in challenging scenarios. It will also review strategies for management of fibroids outside of minimally invasive surgery, including medical management of fibroids, as well as use of abdominal surgery when appropriate. Finally, a panel of experts will be presenting clinical scenarios of various patients. Each panel member will discuss how they would consider treatment options and ultimately what they would offer the patient. The course will review high-quality evidence to support decision-making strategies and will include the use of surgical videos. We will also ask for audience participation during the panel discussion.

Learning Objectives: After attending this session, the participant will be able to: 1) Describe evidence supporting which fibroid patients should be offered surgery and why; 2) Recognize scenarios in which minimally invasive surgery may not be the best treatment option for patients; 3) Employ best practices for contained fibroid extraction; and 4) Choose appropriate surgical modalities for fibroid treatment for patients in challenging clinical scenarios (myomectomy – lap, robotic, open, hysteroscopic, vaginal, hysterectomy – lap, open, vaginal).
