Course Description: Direct visual examination of the uterine cavity and the treatment of intra-uterine pathology are an integral part of modern gynecological practice. This course will familiarize you with the landmarks to safely navigate inside this potential space as well as the tools available to you to treat pathology within. The principles of operation of diagnostic and operative hysteroscopes will be discussed to maximize visualization and minimize the risk of complications. As the use of hysteroscopic surgery expands, the course will highlight its most advanced applications and the associated techniques to be employed such as in adenomyosis, C-section defect treatment and recurrent pregnancy loss.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this course, the participant will: 1) Demonstrate understanding of the normal anatomy and physiology of the uterus; 2) Recognize the interplay of flow rates, intrauterine pressure, distention, and intravasation in context with proper visualization; and 3) Diagnose and treat pathology inside the uterine cavity.
