During this course, five expert surgeons and educators will discuss how to prevent, avoid, detect, and treat perioperative and intraoperative complications during minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.  Prevention and avoidance of surgical complications will include a discussion of presurgical optimization, prophylaxis for various medical conditions, and advice on when to consult other physicians perioperatively or intraoperatively. The discussion of complications will be organ specific and focused on medical conditions, anatomy, and surgical technique.  We will draw on medical evidence, decades of experience, and national and international guidelines to help training and practicing surgeons prevent and diagnose complications in MIGS but, also to manage various organ-specific complications to improve surgical outcomes.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, the participant will be able to: 1) Review preoperative evaluation and measures to optimize patients for surgery; 2) Identify organ specific complications that may result from MIGS and demonstrate competence in how to prevent, diagnose, and manage these complications; 3) Demonstrate anatomic pearls to improve surgical safety; 4) Recognize when to request consultations and/or ask for help before, during, and after surgery; and 5) Discuss video-taping procedures and the benefits, risks, and recommendations regarding this practice.
